Safety awareness in the industry’s maintenance work is greater than ever this year. In order to reduce the risk of occupational accidents, the European Agency for Health and Safety at Work launched a campaign this fall focusing on safe maintenance. The campaign will run until October 2011.
Safe work in wind turbines always has top priority at Avanti Wind Systems. Avanti’s products include lifts and ladder systems with fall protection for wind turbines, as well as other safety equipment for technicians working in wind turbine maintenance.
The EU agency’s campaign cites the high risk of accidents in maintenance work, typically including falls from great heights. “It is therefore incredibly important that the equipment used by workers in wind turbine maintenance and repair be of the highest quality. It is equally important that maintenance technicians be appropriately trained, and that there training be kept up to date”, says Avanti Wind Systems quality manager Dina Lindgren.
Wind turbine owners must also be aware that ladders, fall arrest systems and lifts in the turbines must be inspected and monitored at least once a year. Part of the EU campaign directs attention to the importance of perfect functioning of maintenance and repair equipment.
