Avanti Climb Assistance in Vrouchas Wind Farm in Greece
After a successful test period with Avanti Climb Assistance installed in a wind turbine tower in Vrouchas Wind Farm on
the island of Crete in Greece, the equipment is now in stalled in the 13 other towers in the area.
The turbine towers
are 55 meter high Vestas V52. Vrouchas Wind Farm is owed by Plastika Kritis S.A. It is one of the largest Greek plastics manufacturers
and one of the leading European producers of master batches and agricultural films. It has a strong international orientation
with affiliate companies in China, Romania, Poland & Turkey, and exports to more than 50 countries around the world.
Plastika Kritis also owns and operates the 12 MW Wind Park in Crete, producing around 40.000.000 kWh yearly.
In simple
terms, Avanti Climb Assistance consists of an endless rope which is fastened to the technician's harness with a clamp of the
same type used in mountain climbing. Giving a gentle tug starts a motor which pulls on the rope, thus facilitating climbing
for the technician. The rope runs along the ladder and the pull weight is set by the technician. For example, if he weighs
100 kg and sets the pull to 40 kg, he only has to raise 60 kg of his body weight. The safety systems ensure that the technician
can stop the system at any time because the pull weight is set so that the technician only need to stand still on the ladder
and after a few seconds without movement, the pull force stops. The service technician's weight is also lightened in a similar
way on the way down.
The Avanti Climb Assistance can be installed in all types of wind turbine towers - including older existing turbines.
