Avanti in the biggest wind farm in Chile

In January 2006, when the present president of Chile, Michelle Bachelet, was inaugurated, Chile was producing a mere 2 MW energy from wind power. In the course of the next two years, wind power production is expected to rise to almost 200 MW. According to several news agencies, this information came from the mouth of the president herself when she inaugurated the Monte Redondo wind farm west of Santiago, the capital of Chile.

The wind farm, the largest so far in the country, consists of 19 Vestas V90/2 MW wind turbine towers.

Monte Redondo is owned by the large French energy company GDF SUEZ, and the government-owned Chilean distribution company GEC purchases the power generated, which is expected to amount to 100 gigawatt hours a year.

The 19 new wind turbine towers in Monte Redondo all have service lifts, ladders and fall safety equipment from Avanti Wind Systems installed. Avanti has also delivered ladders, fall safety equipment and Climb Assist for 11 wind turbine towers in the neighbouring Canela I wind farm, which was commissioned two years ago.
